RELATIONSHIP ISSUES AND HOW YOU LOVE

LOVE LANGUAGES

The majority of people who go for relationship counselling believe that they themselves are good communicators.  It is interesting to ask them and their partners how they would rate themselves out of 10 on this and discuss the differences in opinions…

One of the things I like to do is to encourage people to be aware of their ‘love language.’

The 5 Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman https://5lovelanguages.com/ (1992) came about when Gary was counselling couples.  He noticed that the couples were completely misunderstanding each other’s needs, even though they loved each other.  He decided that people usually fell into one of five different love languages, to show the different ways they expressed and experienced love in relationships; Acts of service, gift-giving, physical touch, quality time, and words of affirmation.

You have to identify which of the following makes you feel the most love from your partner:  https://5lovelanguages.com/quizzes/love-language

It may seem like a quiz (straight out of Cosmo magazine in the 90’s) but it has legs! It’s one quite light hearted tool that everyone can relate to.  The idea is that if you know your partner’s love language you can focus more on their needs than your own…

Amen to that.
